The Specialized Secondary Music School-lyceum
History
The specialized secondary music school-lyceum was founded in 1960-61 academic year according to the determination of the Ministry of culture. This school for children of musical gift is a non-standard specialized secondary educational establishment of the higher rank in the field of Art. It carries out professional education together with general education according to the programs of primary and secondary school.
The main aims of the school-lyceum are:
To enable young people enter the Kazan State conservatory and other musical high schools of Russia and foreign countries
To train teachers, concertmasters, artists of orchestra etc.
Studying at the school is free of charge. During the years of the school existence more then 700 musicians, working in high schools and orchestras in Russia, as well as abroad - in Europe and the USA, have graduated from the school.
The rector of the KSC, Peoples Artist of the USSR, professor, laureate of government prizes N.G. Zhiganov contributed considerably in opening and development of the school.
Among the first teachers of the school-lyceum there were professors and senior lecturers of the conservatory: B.G. Apresov, E. A. Monoszon, N.B. Braude, G. Kh. Khodjayev (the first director of the school), A.N. Khairutdinov, I.G. Khalitov, I.S. Dubinina, N.A. Domina.
The school-lyceum closely collaborates with the Kazan State Philharmonic Society, the Big Concert Hall, musical educational establishments of the RT and the RF, schools for children of musical gift of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Ufa and other cities, Composers' Unions of the RT and the RF, organizers of performers' contests of the RF, the countries of the CIS and foreign countries. The collaboration includes performing and organizing activity: concerts, participation in contests, festivals, Delphic games etc.; organization of contests (I.S. Bach's contest in Kazan), taking part in juries of different contests, carrying out master-classes in the Republic as well as beyond its boundaries.
The school takes part in trips on cultural exchange and, with cultural programs, in delegations in near and distant foreign countries, its teachers and students take part in President concerts, celebrations, anniversaries, sponsors performances and in charity actions. The schoolteachers as soloists, concertmasters, as a part of different groups and orchestras go on tours abroad, and take part in international contests. The questions of cultural exchange are to be discussed with the direction and administration of the school.
Teaching
The school-lyceum teaches the following specialities: piano, string and wind instruments. There is the theory and compositions department. The teaching period is of 11 years; first, fourth and eighth forms are competitive. There are chargeable access groups for children of 5-6 years old. At the entrance examination for the first form examining commission is to check musical qualities of a child: ear for music, rhythm, memory, intoning etc. At the end of each academic year - playing the program for corresponding instrument, examination on solfeggio, colloquium.

The School
During the last years the school has brought up more then 100 laureates of regional and international contests; there are 8 scholars of patronage programs. Musicians widely famous in the RT as well as abroad graduated from the school, among them - rector of the KSC, People's artist, laureate of the government prize of the RT and the RF, Honoured worker of arts of the RF, professor of the KSC R.K. Abdullin, conductor in chief of the Orchestra 'La Primavera' R.Yu. Abyazov, pianists M. Pletnev, Yu. Yegorov, R. Urasin - laureates of international contests, the director of Kazan Music School, Honoured worker of culture of the RF R.G. Sabitovskaya, People's artist of the RT, acting as professor of the KSC D.G. Gilfanov, Honoured artist of the RT, senior lecturer of the KSC I.I. Ainatulov, Honoured worker of culture of the RT, senior lecturer of the KSC G.K. Abdullina, the State Quartet of the RT: A.A. Asadullin, M.N. Zaripov, K.L. Monasypov; laureate of international and regional contests percussionist A. Sabiryanov, jazz musician E. Borets.
