Choreography School
History
The idea of establishing a ballet school appeared in 1960s. The republic, having rich national and cultural traditions, preserving and developing them on the stages of its theatres, in collectives of Philharmonic Society and ensembles of folkdance, needed that kind of a school.
The pleiad of brilliant ballerinas, dancers, actors grew up inside the walls of Jalil's Tatar Opera and Ballet theatre. The school became the barest necessity and the only opportunity to hand down precious heritage of ballet masters to young dancers.
About 40 years passed. On March 1, 1993 the Kazan Choreography school was established. This event directly connected with appearing bold and persistent leaders, energetic director, Honoured worker of culture of the RT L.A. Yakovleva and artistic leader Honoured artist of the RT V. A. Yakovlev. Today creative work is under the leadership of People's artist of Russia, Tatarstan, and Bashkotrtostan, professor Yultiyeva.
The school is situated in a graceful mansion, the historical and cultural monument in the center of the city. The cozy and light building, where Terpsichore lives, serves the base for creating future ballet of the Republic.
Teaching staff
There are 49 teachers and concertmasters in the school, and there are People's artists of Russia and Tatarstan, Honoured workers of arts of Tatarstan, Honoured artists of Russia and Tatarstan, master of sports of the USSR on gymnastics, senior lecturer-candidate of medical sciences. So the teaching staff of the school is highly qualified.
Teaching Access department for children of 8-9 years old.
There is an access department in the school for children of 8-9 years old. They have 3 classes a week on the basic subjects: classic dance, gymnastics, the world of music.
Entrance
Talented children can enter the school in the beginning of the summer each year on the specialities
An artist of ballet - at the age of 10
An artist of folk dance ensemble - at the age of 13-14.
Entrance examination are carried out in 3 rounds:
1 - estimation of physique;
2 - medical examination for choreography teaching
3 - artistic selection (ear for music, rhythm sense, artistry)
Together with special disciplines, such as classical, classical duet, folk-scenic, history dance, and special general disciplines, such as: the world of music, musical literature, actor's skill, piano and others, the students have the full course of general subjects within the limits of main general education. After finishing 9th form they obtain the certificate of standard pattern, after finishing full course they obtain Diploma on specialized secondary education. There are good conditions for studying, working and life conditions for complex training of specialists - ballet dancers.
Practical training influences development of future dancers a lot. The students of the school take part in opera and ballet performances of the Jalil's Opera and Ballet theatre: 'Shurale' by F. Yarullin, 'The Nutcracker', 'Swan Lake', 'Sleeping Beauty' by Tchaikovsky, 'Don Quixote ', 'Bayadere' by Minkus, 'Shopeniana' by F. Shopen, 'Selphyde' by Levenshold, 'Anuta' by Gavrilin, 'The Dame of Spades' by Tchaikovsky, 'Altynchech' by Zhiganov and others. The program of practical training of students contains of full variety of concert items.

IV International Ballet Contest 'Vaganova Prix'
Annual Nureyev's Festival of Classic Ballet
Russian Youth Delphic Games in Saratov
IV International Festival of Ballet in Cheboksary
International Contest of Ballet dancers in Varna (Bulgaria) The graduates of the school represent it in the theatres of the country: in the Jalil's theatre in Kazan, in Chelyabinsk, Chuvashia, in Moscow theatres.
In 1999 the regional department of Center of the UNESCO programs assistance.
