  Karimullin Abrar

  The Academician Abrar Gibadullovich Karimullin was born on May 29, 1925 in the village Chabia Churchi of Sabinsky district of the Republic of Tatarstan in the family of a peasant. In 1941 he finished secondary school in the village of Bogatye Saby. First he worked as a collective farmer, then as an accountant at a hospital, and then - as a teacher.
  
  In 1943-1947 he was in the ranks of the Soviet Army, participated in the Great Patriotic war.
  
  In 1948-1953 he was a student of the department of the Tatar philology at the Kazan State University, after finishing which A. Karimullin was assigned to the Science Library of the Kazan University.
  
  Under his leadership recataloging of the Tatar books in Arabic font was made. A. G. Karimullin started creating scientific bibliographical reference books on the Tatar literature, the history of literature, the study of literature, folklore, the history of Tatarstan, some which were published as separate editions.Since December 1964 A.G. Karimullin works in the G. Ibragimov's Institute of Language, literature and history. While working there he was studying history of the Tatar ancient printed book, defended the Ph.D. thesis and the doctoral thesis on this questions. With the publication of the monograph 'The Tatar book of post reform Russia' the reconstitution of the history of the Tatar book of pre-Revolutionary period.
  
  A.G. Karimullin is a scientist with broad interests. He has been the first, who has reconstituted the history of the Tatar book, constituted the national bibliography on philology, the history of art, the personalities of famous scientists and writers of the native land.
  
  At present A.G. Karimullin is directing the work on creating 'The joint catalogue of the Tatar ancient printed book: 1722-1917' in the National Library of the RT.
  
  His scientific and public activity has been recognized in Russia as well as abroad. He has been given a rank of Honoured worker of science of Tatarstan; he is a laureate of the G. Tukai's Government Prize of Tatarstan, honoured with a number of diplomas and medals, honourary titles from different foreign scientific societies.
