Validi Akhmet-Zaki 12/12/1890
Akhmet-Zaki Validi was known as a Kazan shakird and mugallim, Duma deputy, and the first "president" of Bashkortostan. He was also known as a basmatch (member of a counter-revolutionary robber band in Central Asia during Civil War) and high-level world scientist. These attributes define one and the same person and determine the basic stages of Akhmet-Zaki Validi's life. It is necessary to mention that Z.Validi was one of the most remarkable figures of the national movement of the first half of the XX century. Zaki Akhmetshevich Validi was born in Kuzyan aul (village) of Sterlitamaksky uyezd of Ufa Province (nowadays, Ishimbaevsky region of Bashkortostan) on December 12th of 1890. His father was a mullah. In his early childhood, Akhmet-Zaki studied the Arabian, Persian, and Russian languages. In autumn of 1908, his Kazan period of life began. He became a shakird and, later, mugallim-beginner of one of the most prestigious Kazan medresses (a Muslim educational institution) - "Kasimia" madrasah. Also, he became known as an outstanding scientific and public figure of the city. He taught Turkic history and Arabian and Turkic literature at "Kasimia" madrasah. In 1912, his first fundamental work "The History of Turks" was published. In 1914, Z.Validi, widely recognized as an outstanding scientist and public figure, moved to Ufa, where he became "Usmania" madrasah mudarris. Also, he became the IV State Duma representative and began his cooperative work with its Muslim fraction. In many respects, Validi's work determined the various ways of Bashkir people's statehood formation in 1917-1920. When the idea of independent Bashkortostan's foundation failed, Validi left for Ferghana, where he became one of the leaders of basmatch movement. In February of 1923, Z.Validi left the territory of the USSR. His further life was fully devoted to science. Hence, he became one of the most outstanding orientalists of the world. He gave his lectures in London, Bonn, Vienna, and Berlin. Moreover, he was the head of Islamic Research Institute that he had founded in Istanbul. Z.Validi died in Istanbul on July 26th of 1970. |
