Kursavi Gabdennasyr 01/01/1776
The outstanding Tatar scientist, one of the founders of the rationalistic tendency in the history of the Tatar public idea. G.Kursavi was born in 1776 in the family of the fine dealer from the settlement of Kursa of the Kazan province. Initial education he got in madrasah. He went to Bukhara to continue his education. During four-year stay there he studied in details theology, philosophy and jurisprudence, mastered the east languages, got acquainted with the works of outstanding poets. Coming back home, in Kursa village he opened a big madrasah. G.Kursavi also was engaged in sciences. He wrote more than ten scientific-philosophical treatises. The most significant 'The Direction of People onto the Just Way' where he exposed medieval orders, fanaticism, scholasticism. Kursavi recognized that the future of people, their introduction for a way of progress and education was connected with the distribution of scientific knowledge and achievements of culture. He called to build madrasah, to develop publishing business and distribution of the literature, exposed the conservatism of mullas. Kursavi was accused of denying the norms accepted among Moslems, depravity of youth by the sermon of his views at the lessons in madrasah. In the spiritual Management of Moslems people wrote accusing papers on Kursavi. Not having sustained the constant persecutions, G.Kursavi left his native land in 1912 and on the way to Muslim sacred places got ill (plague) and died of it in Istanbul. |
