  Kharis Yakupov

Kharis Yakupov was born in 1923 in Kazan, he finished the art school, took part in the Great Patriotic War. After demobilization worked in the studio of 'Vsekhudozhnik' under the leadership of Johansson in Moscow. For the long time he was the chairman of Artists' Union of the RT, the chairman of the zone exhibition committee 'the Big Volga'. Full number of Academy of Art of Russia, laureate of the government prizes of the USSR, the RSFSR, Tatarstan.

The halls of his work at an exhibition are a celebration of healthy realism and common sense, understanding of the time and himself, professionalism and wisdom.

Art critics have called him the 'key figure of Tatarstan fine art' tens years ago. Graphic and painting, monumental canvases and classical landscape, genre painting and portraits - that is a short list of the works you can see at the anniversary exhibition. There is one common thing in the works - surprising sense of harmony and positive life perception. Yakupov is too wise not to appreciate every moment of life given from above. And this mood is definitely perceived in his works of different years.

Those who are used to perceive the artist as the author, working in the historical-revolutionary genre, will be surprised to see Yakupov's lyrical landscapes and still lives, filled with light. Blue colour of the 'Blue morning', richness of his still lives reveals the other part of his artistic personality.

One of the latest paintings, dated by this year (Yakupov was working at it for 15 years), is dedicated to Tukai. It is a light canvas, where the image of the poet is comprehended through the surroundings in which he worked, through his personages. It looks as if there were three Tukais - a boy, a teenager, and a young man. All of them are united by the image of the poet, which we are used to see.
