The Art of Jewelry
The Tatar art of jewelry is national proud of the Tatar people. It is one of the most ancient kinds of folk arts, connected mostly with the national, especially women costume. Centuries passed, the technology of producing articles of jewelry became more complicated, the means of their decorative design were enriched, but general technique of human processing in the work of jewelers almost didn't change. Traditionally, the Tatar women wore a considerable number of jewelry, which weighed up to 6 kilos. Those were items made of silver, turquoise, jasper, coral and amber. When making jewelry Tatar jewelers used knobby filigree (known-only in Kazan), embossing, castings, engraving, blacking and encrustation. The ancient (monumental) style of closing included large openwork (filigreed), often with pendants, decorated with gems, jewelry. Today the artists-jewelers are working in the Republic, who revive the richest traditions of the Tatar art of jewelry, using traditional jeweler's technique in their work: filigree, knobby filigree, engraving and others. Young artists are trying to preserve continuity between the progressive traditions of the jeweler's art of the past and the newest, connected with new forms of everyday life, new artistic standards. Here you can see, generally, the works by two modern masters of jewelry - the members of the Artist Union of the Republic of Tatarstan: Solovieva Tatiana Vladislavovna and Vasilieva Irina Apollonovna. |
