Schepkin Mikhail 11/06/1788
Mikhail Semenovich Schepkin The founder of realism in the Russian stage art, reformator of the Russian theatre. Till 1822 he performed in serf theatre, since 1805 - on the provincial stage, since 1823 - on Moscow stage. He proved educational and social significance of the theatre. Schepkin insisted on the submission of the whole creative process to one general idea. He strived for nature of the play, developed principles of art. He was a friend of N.V.Gogol, A.I.Gertsen, V.G.Belinsky, T.G.Shevchenko, he defined the ideal and artistic positions of the theatre. Schepkin played in performances of different genres: comedies, comic operas, vaudevilles. In autumn of 1836, Schepkin was on tour in Kazan. And for the first time on Kazan stage, "Auditor" was performed. The play enjoyed great success. In 1837-1841 Schepkin alone or with his daughter was on tour in our city almost every year. The newly built theatre was one of the best in provincial Russia. The first performances were marked with play of Schepkin and his daughter. Last time he was in Kazan in 1863 on the way to Saratov. |
